Poetry in Otley

Otley is a poetry-rich town. It has a Town Poet, its own small poetry press, many fine poets in a number of styles and at least four thriving poetry groups.

Otley Poets meets at Korks Wine Bar on Bondgate at 8pm on the first Thursday of every month (except January). It’s a friendly and lively group and welcomes newcomers. Contact: Sandra Burnett, sandraburnett3ATgmail.com

Otley Poetry Gym meets at The Horse and Farrier on Bridge Street on the third Tuesday of the month at 8pm. It’s a place to workshop poems in progress and try to meet the challenge of the word of the month. Contact: Sandra Burnett, sandraburnett3ATgmail.com

Otley Other Poets is an informal place for reading and discussing anyone’s poetry except your own – usually published poets. It meets at 7.30 for 8 on the second Tuesday of the month at The Horse and Farrier on Bridge Street. Contact: Jane Kite, jkATjanekite.co.uk

Otley Stanza is a local group of The Poetry Society. It meets on the last Sunday of the month from 2pm to 4pm at the office of Half Moon Books, 9b Westgate, Otley. It is open to anyone who is a member of the Poetry Society or who is prepared to join. Contact: Jane Kite, jkATjanekite.co.uk
