We are delighted that Gaia Holmes will be judging the Half Moon Books Otley Poetry Prizes competition for 2018 and that we are working with Wildlife Friendly Otley with the theme of: WILDLIFE
“Interpret the theme in whatever way you wish. Send us poems about rivers, trees, birds, bees and the natural things that enrich our world, poems about wild lives and wild places, or the wild life and deep, dark forests of the imagination.”
Prizes: 1st – £250, 2nd – £50, Only-Otley Prize £25
Closing date 2nd July
All entries must be received by Monday 2 July 2018.
Poems must be of 40 lines or less (not including the title) and can interpret the theme in any way. Poems must be the original work of the entrant to the competition and not have won a prize in any other competition or have been published online or in print before 1st September 2018. Prizewinners will be notified by this date.
Copyright of all poems remains with the poet. Entrants agree to allow OWF Press/ Half Moon Books and Wildlife Friendly Otley to publish the prize-winning poems on their websites and allow the titles and authors of any commended poems to be published on the website.
All poems will be read by the judge: Gaia Holmes. Gaia’s decision on the main prizes is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Gaia will provide a shortlist for the Only-Otley prize and the final winner will be chosen by Andrew McKeon from Wildlife Friendly Otley.
The Only-Otley Prize will be awarded to a poet who lives in Otley or has a strong connection to the town.
Winners will be invited to read at an event on September 22nd.
Commendations will be awarded at the judge’s discretion.
You can send as many poems as you wish accompanied by the appropriate entry fee.
Sending your poems: poems can be submitted online or by post/hand delivery.
Online: Pay via PayPal above, then email your poems to firstname.lastname@example.org with the following information in the body of the email:

All poems will be considered for the 1st and 2nd prizes. If you wish your poem(s) also to be considered for the Only-Otley Prize, please state your connection with Otley.
You could also let us know if you would like to be added to our mailing list for occasional updates.
Attach your poems as a Word or pdf file (one file for all your poems, one poem per page please). Do not put your name or any other information on the poems. We will have to disqualify your poem if you put your name on it.
By Post: send your poems and the application form or the relevant information on a piece of paper, to us at Half Moon House, 9b Westgate, Otley, LS21 3AT. The poems must not show your name or other information and each one must be on a separate sheet of paper. Enclose a cheque made payable to OWF Press.
Otley Poetry Prizes is organized by OWF PRESS COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY. Any proceeds from the competition will be used to support our work with poets.
